When looking into joining an ezine advertising co-op, a new customer may be interested to learn what forms of advertising are generally accepted in ezine co-op publications. Understanding these formats will help the advertiser to choose the best submissions for their money. Being an educated advertiser will bring a better return on your purchase. Please be aware that each ad co-op is run individually and each program may or may not allow each of these formats or may allow other formats not listed. This will cover the basic types of ads that I have seen involved in ezine ad co-ops. 1. "Emailed Within" Ezine Advertising: This means that the ad that you submit is run directly within an ezine that is emailed to their approved list. Inside the ezine a section will either be designated for classified ads or the ads may be intermingled between articles and other content. This ezine can be a “text only” publication, an HTML enhanced version or a multi-part version (meaning both text and HTML) so that if the client cannot or chooses not to receive HTML email, a plain text version is presented instead. Pros: • Your ad will be emailed to the number of subscribers listed in their subscriber count (give or take a little due to subscriber changes since the last update or the number of bounced emails their list creates.) • Your ad will be read over a period of time due to some readers opening the email right away while others may save the content to read at a later date. Cons: • Your ad will be disposable as soon as the reader deletes the ezine. • Depending on the open email rate of the ezine, your ad may not be seemed by as many viewers as you think. 2. "Emailed with Ads Online" Ezine Advertising: This means that the ezine is sent via email in any of, but instead of an ad section directly within their publication, they include a link which hosts an online classified website or directory. Pros: • Others, not just those in the subscriber list, could view your ad. • Your ad may have a longer run span depending on how often they remove ads. Some could last 30 days or more. Cons: • All subscribers in the ezine list may not view your ad. Some subscribers never click the link to visit the ads, potentially lowering the number of views to your ad. • Your email address may be harvested if you use it as a contact method in your ad. Some classified sites have measures for protecting you, but others do not. 3. "Emailed Link to Online Ezine and Ads" Ezine Advertising: This means that the publisher sends a notice that an online version of their ezine or blog has been updated and a link is provided to view it online. Some run ads in the notification email others do not. Pros: • Once again your ad is online, either in a classified section or directly on the page of the ezine’s website. Potentially allowing others to view it other than the subscriber list. • Your ad may be formatted by them to allow keyword backlinks to your website. This is good for search engine optimization. Google focuses heavily on links that point to your site from other sites. Though links that contain keywords are better, even a link that shows http:// will help get your site indexed. Cons: • Once again, a link to another page can potentially keep some subscribers from taking the step to see your ads. • Depending on how quickly their online site fills up with ads, your ad may not be very visible for long unless you really dig. Because each of these methods offers both pros and cons to advertising, I would suggest choosing a variety of methods at first to run your ads. Test which method provides the best return on your investment, then work directly with those publishers that offer the best formats for you. By building a relationship with the ezine publishers that bring you results, you can usually get much better rates and bonuses then if you just go in unsure of what you need. Most publishers are very customer service oriented and will work very hard to get you a valuable ad package. ©2009 Ezine Ad Team, All Rights Reserved.
