There are literally thousands of ezines online that accept classified ads in their publications. Some ezines accept free ads as an incentive to reach new subscribers or to provide a quality service for their existing members. Other ezines only accept paid classified ads to generate an income or to limit how many ads are run per issue. With having so many options to choose, a new advertiser may find the idea of submitting an ad to an ezine publisher a bit intimidating. With a few simple pointers, you can feel more confident that you will create a quality ad that will be accepted to run your chosen ezine’s ad section. 1. Formatting: Publishers have many ways to run classified ads, but I have found through experience that many ezines accept either a 5 or 6-line classified ad with an additional 1 or 2 lines for contact information. (This means the website URL or email address.) The ad character length is usually limited to 55 to 65 characters (including the spaces between the words) to keep the ads uniform. You can use my Ezine Ad Character Counter to help you format your ad to the required length of the ezine you choose. Try to keep one statement per line to maintain the readers attention. 2. Headlines: The headline is the first impression you give the viewer. When trying to capture the reader’s attention, keep in mid the following pointers: - Avoid writing in all capital letters: This may trigger spam filters, so some publishers will edit or reject ads that are written in all capital letters. It may also actually causes the reader to overlook the headline due to the block style. If you use capital letters for emphasis, be sure to limit it to one or two of the most important words. • An alternative to using all capitals is to write the headline using title case: This means that most words start with a capitol letter and the rest are lower case. (Words such as 'the' or 'a' are kept lower case unless they are at the beginning of the title.)
Example: 10 Secrets to Super Shiny Hair - Avoid headlines that make claims that cannot be proven or that mislead the viewer. Ezine publishers place their reputation on the line every time they publish an issue. If your ad makes exaggerated or false claims, it is not only harmful to their business, but it is illegal in most countries. This type of headline will most likely get your ad rejected. Instead, try headlines that cause curiosity, trigger a response or offer a free gift. This will keep your ad’s interest high, and maintain the integrity of the publication. Your will be more likely to be accepted if you use honest headlines.
3. Content: When writing the body of your ad, keep in mind the audience that you are targeting. If you have chosen ezines that run content that is similar to your ad, it should be easier to find the proper tone and approach to use for your ad. Simply scan previous issues to see what other advertisers have used for ads. If an ad is repeated in more than one issue, it may be a sign that it has preformed well in that publication. Notice the wording or approach. Does it ask a question? Perhaps it offers a free incentive for the subscribers to react to their ad. Simply match the tone of that ad (do not copy exactly as that is copy write infringement) and your ad will likely be accepted into your chosen ezine ad section. Writing and submitting ezine ads is a skill that gets easier with time. Follow these simple rules and you will soon be on your way to submitting successful ezine ads to multiple publications and reaping the benefits. ©2009 Ezine Advertising Team, All Rights Reserved.
